Cycle to MIPIM 2019
This year Luma’s MIPIM planning includes hitting Manchester’s roads at 7 am, warm rain or cold rain. Luma director Sarah Galligan is cycling the 1500km to Cannes in March 2019, where Lucy and our MIPIM clients will be waiting for her.
A regular runner and inner-city cyclist, Sarah was persuaded to take part in Club Peloton’s Cycle to MIPIM 2019 challenge with a bit of persuasion (from Lucy) and the promise of fun, networking and fundraising for a great cause.
Cycling challenges, however, are new to Sarah. She joins 200 property professionals in a punishing 6-day ride, completing up to 120km each day – no letting the team down! Sarah will experience what it’s like to be a pro cyclist, with a support crew comprising mechanical support, medics, physiotherapists and motorcycle outriders. Sarah’s training has started, though as a new road challenge cyclist, she has had problems getting used to the very basics – including using SPD pedals. Her friend Ivor, a rider with cycling club Chorlton Velos, commented last week that he had never seen anyone fall as much!
Sarah is excited about the adventure, “Now I have stopped falling over (getting used to clip-in pedals was ‘fun’), I’m in training and am taking it seriously. I won’t let Coram down and I won’t let the peloton down. Whatever happens, I’ll get a personal PB in cycling from London to Cannes as part of Cycle to MIPIM 2019.”
Coram works with children in the care system, supporting families with children at risk of being taken into care and excluded young people including child refugees. Supporting Coram through fundraising is important to Luma. We have a history of supporting charities focusing on inclusion and Sarah has worked at leading UK children’s charities The Children’s Society and Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.
We will be coordinating some fundraising and training events in the coming months: watch out for invitations to some fun, cycling and cycling-themed events.
Keep updated on Sarah’s training and sponsorship quest via Luma’s website and her sponsorship page. If you would like to support our endeavours, we thank you very much!
