Meet Rachel… Luma’s social media guru
This month we are asking Rachel a few questions, to get to know the person behind the tweets a little bit better.
What did you want to be when you were a kid?
I always wanted to be a vet when I was younger and spent most of my childhood surrounded by animals. It wasn’t until I took an injured pet to the vet and passed out that I decided perhaps it wasn’t for me!
So, how did you get into social media?
Once my Dr Doolittle dream evaporated, I spent the next 14 years working in marketing. When I started my career, “social media” was TV, press and radio advertising and we paid a lot more for it!
Social media eventually became the stepping stone to reaching a wider audience much faster and at less expense than traditional advertising. I liked its fast-paced and interactive nature, and was drawn to it as an area of expertise.
What do you like most about your job?
I love working with lots of different clients and getting to know each on a deeper level. Every business is unique and it’s interesting to delve into the heart of a business to find the engaging and interesting stories to share. My ears prick up when a client mentions something that I know will get engagement with their network on social media.
What’s the key to a successful social post?
Above all, it’s got to be interesting and relevant. But people still want to be entertained. Sharing stories of real people, posts that pose a question, and posts that tap into the news stories of the day all do well.
Each social channel responds differently to posts so having a good understanding of the social channels is important and targeting relevant content is key.
Finally, what keeps you busy when you’re not at Luma HQ?
Family life is entirely all consuming. With two children I find that I am most often found in my role as mum taxi every day of the week! I find my peace and quiet by taking our cockapoo out for his daily walks.
